ROCK HILL, SC- TPA Post K President Richard Martin has collected over 1,000 pounds of aluminum cans this year all funds to be donated to the Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired. Martin can be seen rain or shine traveling the roads of York and Cherokee county gathering aluminum cans. Each month he dedicates an average of 60 hours and walks up to 80 miles to rally aluminum cans. Martin said this is his way of being able to give back to an organization that has been near to his heart for over three decades it has also allowed him to see the generosity of the community around him. The collection process is tedious as it takes 32 aluminum cans to equal one pound and as the market value varies it averages $0.55 per pound. Martin said being able to touch the lives of hearing impaired children and support their educational process makes it all worthwhile. Post K was able to donate $1,000 to the Scholarship Trust at this year’s National Convention as a result of Martin’s efforts. Richard Martin has been a member of the Traveler’s Protective Association since 1984. He is a Rock Hill native and has served as National TPA president, vice president, director, safety chairman, and welfare chairman throughout his years of membership.
