Colorado Division visitation

Paula and I traveled to the Colorado Division from July 1st through the 4th for several reasons.  Colorado is trying to get a proposal to the national board of directors to bring the 2019 annual convention to Denver.  One of the purposes for the trip was to see the area attractions and location for a future convention.  Another was to stay at the Radisson Hotel to see if the site was acceptable to hold a convention, to see the accommodations, staff, and to sample the food.  The third objective was to attend the Fourth of July parade to increase TPA’s brand awareness and name recognition.  The final purpose was to share information regarding our 5k Walk fundraising experience with the members in the Colorado Division.

We arrived on Saturday and were met at the airport by past national president Joel Lederman and his spouse Sydney.  It was about a 30 minute ride from the airport to downtown Denver, where our tour began.  The city has quite a bit to offer, including shopping, fine dining, an amusement park, and sports venues.  Denver is home the NFL Broncos, MLB Rockies, NBA Nuggets, and NHL Avalanche.  On Sunday we visited a couple of marinas and were given a tour of the state parks.

On Monday we visited the prospective convention site.  We had a wonderful buffet breakfast, toured the facility, and negotiated rates.  The property has more than enough room to accommodate a TPA annual meeting.  The sleeping rooms are in twin towers, one is eight stories and the other is twelve stories.  The meeting rooms and banquet facility are just an elevator ride away.  We also visited with the state secretary from the Colorado Division.  He graciously took us 9600 feet in the air to his cabin in the Rockies and we had an unforgettable journey through the mountains.

Tuesday afternoon we were off to the Fourth of July parade where we met with Division members and answered questions regarding Class A, Class D and Class E membership.  We shared our knowledge and best practices for fundraisers as well.  We distributed 250 coloring books, brochures, pamphlets and information regarding TPA and the Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired.  It is estimated that several thousands of people attended the event.  After taking down the information booth we were off to the airport and we arrived home safely at approximately 12:30 am on July 5th.

Paula and I wish to extend our appreciation and many thanks to the members of the Colorado Division for their generosity and hospitality; Joel and Sydney Lederman, Rocco Astuno, and Michael Holzberg.

Lastly, I wrote two membership applications to Colorado residents during the visitation.

Respectfully submitted,

Albert M. Shoemaker, Jr.
